Overview

The ecosystem has undergone a major restructuring in 2025–2026, shifting from legacy exam-based certifications to a role-based framework aligned with real IT job functions.

Certification Landscape

Legacy (RETIRED)

Important: The following certifications were retired and are no longer available for new candidates. Existing holders retain their credentials until the original two-year expiry.

What happens if you hold a legacy cert? Your credential remains valid for two years from issue date. Renewal requires earning a new role-based certification in the same track.

New Role-Based Framework (2025+)

Effective August 1, 2025, Palo Alto Networks replaced the old exam structure with a four-tier, three-track system:

As of 2026:

• Delivery: In-person only at Pearson VUE test centers (Pearson VUE Palo Alto Networks)
• Online proctoring: NO LONGER AVAILABLE (removed August 1, 2025)
• Passing score: 860 / 1000 (scaled)
• Duration: 90 minutes (some include unscored pretest items)
• Language support: Non-English speakers receive automatic 30-minute extension
• Voucher validity: 12 months from purchase; must schedule within 12 months
• Certification validity: 2 years from pass date
• Registration: Via Palo Alto Store / Pearson VUE
