About

The VCP-NV certification validates your ability to architect, deploy, configure, and operate VMware NSX virtual networking platforms. NSX is Broadcom/VMware's flagship software-defined networking (SDN) solution, enabling logical switching, distributed firewalling, micro-segmentation, and multi-site federation. This Professional-level credential demonstrates deep hands-on competency — it assumes you've spent at least 6 months configuring and troubleshooting NSX in production, and targets network architects, virtualization engineers, and cloud infrastructure teams migrating to software-defined infrastructure.

The current exam (2V0-41.24, VCP-NV 2024 v2) reflects NSX 4.x architecture and operations. Broadcom removed mandatory instructor-led training requirements in May 2024, allowing self-study and lab-based preparation.

Domain context — Networking / Virtualization / SDN

Software-defined networking (SDN) and network virtualization are core IT infrastructure layers. The VCP-NV sits at the intersection of traditional networking and cloud-native architecture — applicable to enterprise data centers, hybrid clouds, and multi-cloud environments.

Topics covered

Based on the official Broadcom exam guide, the 2V0-41.24 exam assesses knowledge across these major domains:

  • NSX Fundamentals & Architecture (15–20%) — Virtual Cloud Network concepts, NSX-T/NSX 4.x design principles, Manager cluster topology, transport zones
  • Logical Switching & Routing (20–25%) — Segment creation, logical switches, East-West routing, distributed logical routers, gateway features
  • NSX Edge & Gateways (15–20%) — Edge node deployment, Tier-0 and Tier-1 gateways, North-South traffic flows, gateway clustering
  • Network Security & Distributed Firewall (20–25%) — Distributed firewall policies, micro-segmentation, service insertion, identity-based policies
  • Multi-Site & Federation (10–15%) — Global Manager, federated architecture, cross-site policy replication
  • Network Services (10–15%) — VPN, load balancing, DHCP relay, DNS, network telemetry
  • Operations, Troubleshooting & Monitoring (15–20%) — Event monitoring, performance tuning, certificate management, upgrade procedures, support bundles
